TRATON Research & Development (R&D) is undergoing a major transformation to establish a strong, global Group R&D organization. Our goal is to deliver a time-critical roadmap, deliver outstanding customer value, and drive innovation across our brands—Scania, MAN, INTERNATIONAL and Volkswagen Truck & Bus. This transformation will strengthen our competitiveness and position Group R&D as a key business partner within TRATON Group. We are now looking for you to be part of this exciting change journey, shaping the future of Group R&D.We see the individuality of our employees as a strength and welcome diverse applications from people with different backgrounds. If you need support during your application, please contact us.

Software‑Defined Vehicles are one of the big disrupting technological shifts in the automotive industry and the capability to deliver and operate software in a reliable and scalable way is becoming a critical success factor. With the TRATON One OS, TRATON Group is rolling out a next-generation software-defined vehicle platform designed to bring the speed, flexibility, and continuous update cycles of modern software development to the commercial vehicle industry. Our goal is to help development teams at TRATON to unlock the potential of this new framework. We contribute to key components of the TRATON One OS Cloud Platform and act as enablers and knowledge multipliers. We provide golden paths, best practices, and guidance to help teams deliver high‑quality digital services faster and more autonomously.

Your responsibilities

  • You will support development teams when they face complex technical problems — such as migrating a service to the cloud, investigating unexpected product behavior, or resolving performance issues
  • You will join product teams temporarily (typically for 3–6 months) with a clear focus on analyzing problems, identifying root causes, and proposing suitable architectural or technical solutions. You will be an on-the-job coach for developers that are not yet cloud native
  • You will reconcile with other team members to discuss and drive solutions
  • You will help improving the platform by bringing back requirements and improvements from the teams to the platform
  • You will provide proofs of concept, blueprints, or technical spikes when needed. These may not be production‑ready, but they offer clear guidance on how to solve the issue correctly
  • Your tasks include creating example implementations, guidelines, golden paths, templates, and reusable constructs to support teams and drive standardization and quality across the organization
  • You will contribute as a developer to the evolution of core cloud‑platform technologies — including cloud infrastructure, CDK constructs, integrations, Landing Zone components, IAM, and other foundational platform capabilities
  • You will reduce your involvement to on‑demand support once a team is confident to continue independently, and then move on to the next project with the same engagement model
  • You will work across the full development lifecycle — including architecture, development, CI/CD, monitoring, and operations — ensuring end‑to‑end quality and clarity
  • You will support both offboard (AWS Cloud) and onboard (container) environments, including the interactions between these systems
  • You will act as an internal consultant and enabler, sharing knowledge, promoting best practices, and contributing to the continuous evolution of the TRATON One OS Cloud Platform and the Shift‑North mindset

Your qualifications

  • Strong background in software engineering, with hands‑on experience across the full software development lifecycle — from design and implementation to testing, deployment, monitoring, and operations
  • Expertise in cloud architecture, ideally with AWS, including designing scalable, secure, and maintainable distributed systems
  • Experience building and operating cloud‑native infrastructure, such as Landing Zones, IAM setups, CDK constructs, integrations, and platform‑level services
  • Experience with developer experience and platform offerings
  • Ability to analyze complex technical challenges and propose clear and well‑structured solutions
  • Curiosity and a strong drive to explore and try new technologies, tools, and architectural patterns
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and facilitation skills, enabling you to support and empower teams effectively
  • Proactive mindset - you take initiative, follow through on open topics, and drive progress without waiting for direction
  • Team‑oriented, collaborative attitude with the ability to work in an international and cross‑functional environment
  • A networking‑oriented mindset, naturally building relationships and knowledge exchange across teams and domains
  • Very good English and German skills, both written and spoken
  • Experience with event‑driven architectures, distributed systems, or onboard/offboard integrations is a plus
  • Familiarity with Agile ways of working (experience with SAFe is an advantage)

We offer

  • Flexible working hours with trust-based working hours
  • Up to 80% working remotely as well as 20 days/year working from abroad in the EU
  • 30 leave days + 6-8 additional free days due to conversion option
  • Attractive compensation with 5 special payments
  • Benefits and employee discounts including VW leasing offers
  • Company pension scheme
  • Digital learning from everywhere
  • Global career opportunities with TRATON brands in Sweden, USA and Brazil
